The Mystery of Edwin Drood

Happy Friday all! Just a short note to say Karen and I caught the Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of The Mystery Of Edwin Drood last night and in my humble opinion it’s fab. It’s boisterous, bawdy and fun, fun, fun with an exquisite cast of both exciting newcomers and talented vets. Leading the cast is one of the most vetted vets of the broadway stage, Chita Rivera (and let me just say, Chita still gots it) along with Stephanie Block, Will Chase, Jim Norton and Andy Karl. Karen was most excited that the kid in the cast, Nicholas Barasch, voiced one of the characters on the Backyardigans…such moms. Anyway, it’s a great time and I highly recommend, get thee to Studio 54 before March 10th!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Today I am sharing some highlights from a photo project I did while spending the day at The Highline here in NYC. Karen and I went a day in September, so not many of the flowers were … Continue reading

Getting to know you…

In the interest of getting to know one another and to get a deeper understanding (for myself) of what I want to do with this blog, I thought I’d explore with you some of the stuff I love and hate. It’s important stuff.

Love It:

  • Traveling
  • Driving
  • Mass Transit (True story, you run across some very interesting folks on the subway.)
  • Cooking experiments in my kitchen
  • Online shopping (Truly, Amazon Prime is one of the best things to ever happen to me.)
  • Organizing stuff (I MAY have a slight case of OCD. Maybe.)
  • Baked Goods
  • Playing with my kid
  • Pinterest (This can actually not appear on this list enough times to accurately convey to you how  much I really, really, REALLY love it.)
  • Talking walks
  • New York City
  • Downton Abbey (Mary, Cora, Robert, especially Violet, Countess of Grantham. I love you, Maggie Smith.)
  • Being in rehearsal
  • Red Wine
  • Hotels
  • Games (Especially Catch Phrase.)
  • Cleaning the bathroom (Weird, but true. It’s visibly dirty then visibly clean, immediate satisfaction. I love it.)

Hate it:

  • Unpacking
  • Traffic
  • Waking up early (Unfortunate when you have a toddler.)
  • Rudeness
  • Trying clothes on (I get hot, annoyed and sometimes slightly suicidal. It is what it is.)
  • When our house is messy (It makes me absolutely crazy. This comes from my mother and so it is not my fault.)
  • Baking (Too scientific, if I can’t add as much of stuff as I want I’m not really interested.)
  • Cleaning up after my child, the tornado person.
  • The news (I don’t care how this makes me sound, it’s true. I read the news but truly, both watching it and reading it makes me sad and crazy in my head.)
  • Running (I tried to train myself to like this a while back, but all that accomplished was convincing me that my first instinct was correct, it really is the worst thing ever.)
  • Real Housewives of anywhere.
  • Tequila
  • Parallel Parking (Gives me so much anxiety, which is a real bummer in NYC.)
  • Airports
  • Technology (Not all technology, just when I don’t know how to do something, which is often. Technology is just outside of my natural skill set and I’m woman enough to admit it.)
  • Doing Laundry

There it is. Awesomeness and not so awesomeness. I’m sure there are a bunch more things that I should share to give you an accurate look at just what you’re dealing with here, but I need to keep some mystery, yes? Also, I can’t think of anymore.

In very slightly related news, I just took a quiz to see what character in Downton Abbey I am and it turns out I am Anna. I’m happy with this. Now you take it (here) and tell me who you are!

Off we go…

Moi.

Moi.

Hello Interwebs!

It’s 2013 and I am going to give this blogging thing a try one more time. I started blogging back in 2005 and did it for an impressive 5 to 6 months. Then I tried in 2010, wrote one entry and never published the blog. In 2011 I tried again thinking this time surely I would stick with it as I had so much to muse about as a new mom. Nope. Never published. 2012 would be my year, right? Wrong. I got frustrated trying to create a layout I liked and never did anything with it. 2013…this is the year folks, I can feel it! After having gone on a mass deleting spree, clearing the internet of all my previous failed blog attempts I am starting fresh.

Wandering. It’s pretty much what I do in my life and I love it. I love being a wanderer. Having a good idea of where I want to go but no clear path to get there. The J.R.R. Tolkien quote, “Not all who wander are lost” has been my mantra for several years now and I feel like it’s working out pretty well for me. It’s led me here, to this blog (fingers crossed) in 2013 in New York with an awesome wife, an amazing little boy, some pretty rad friends and family, a career that’s chugging along and some beautiful moments to call my own.

I hope I’ll be able to use this blog to reflect on the great (and not so great) things that come to our little tribe of three, document cooking adventures large and small, create art and explore the work of others and examine this wide wandering world.

Come wander with me, and feel free to drop me a line if you are interested in going anywhere special. I’m just in it for the sights.
