Wednesday Inspirations: The Creative Life

For today’s Wednesday Inspiration I’m looking to people who know what’s up about what, for me, this year is all about: getting my creative groove back. Need some inspiration about the art of creating? I always do!

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will.” -George Bernard Shaw

“Imagination imitates. It is the critical spirit that creates.” -Oscar Wilde

“The chief enemy of creativity is good sense” – Pablo Picasso

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams

“Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it” – Salvador Dali

“You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star” – Nietzsche

“There is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost.”  — Martha Graham

“By believing passionately in something that still does not exist, we create it. The non-existent is whatever we have not sufficiently desired.” Nikos Kazantzakis

“I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.” John Cage

“We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.” – Kurt Vonnegut

“Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one.” -Stella Adler

“In the world of the dreamer there was solitude: all the exaltations and joys came in the moment of preparation for living. They took place in solitude. But with action came anxiety, and the sense of insuperable effort made to match the dream, and with it came weariness, discouragement, and the flight into solitude again. And then in solitude, in the opium den of remembrance, the possibility of pleasure again.” -Anaïs Nin

Wednesday Inspirations

Happy Wednesday, friends! Confession time: I’ve nothing of import or interest to say at all. So, on this rainy (at least in NY) hump day, let’s take an opportunity to recharge a little bit together, shall we? Here are some thoughts from the minds that inspire me most, because like Claire Danes (Angela) said on My So-Called Life, (don’t judge me, that was a good show) “Someone always says it better than me.”

“(Come in under the shadow of this red rock), And I will show you something different from either your shadow at morning striding behind you or your shadow at evening rising to meet you.” -T.S. Eliot

“Bigger questions, questions with more than one answer, questions without an answer are harder to cope with than silence. Once asked they do not evaporate and leave the mind to its serener musings. Once asked the gain dimention and texture, trip you on the stairs, wake you at night-time. A black hole sucks up its surroundings and even light never escapes. Better then to ask no questions? Better then to be a contented pig than an unhappy Socrates? Since factory farming is tougher on pigs than it is on philosophers I’ll take a chance.” -Jeanette Winterson

“When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.” -Kahlil Gibran

“I crave white on white on black but my thoughts race in glorious technicolor, prodding me awake, whipping away the warm blanket of invisibility every time it swears to smother my mind in nothing.” -Sarah Kane

“It is rare indeed that people give. Most people guard and keep; they suppose that it is they themselves and what they identify with themselves that they are guarding and keeping, whereas what they are actually guarding and keeping is their system of reality and what they assume themselves to be.” -James Baldwin

“But only someone who is ready for everything, who excludes nothing, not even the most enigmatical, will live the relation to another as something alive and will himself draw exhaustively from his own existence.” -Rilke

Don’t we all feel a little bit more inspired? Well, I do. A little. Happy hump day, ya’ll.
